Field Data

All walls that are wholly or partly exposed during excavation are assigned masonry unit numbers, and their architectural characteristics are recorded in detail. The following masonry data are available in this section of the database:

  • actual and inferred height
  • foundation type
  • construction material
  • number of courses
  • cross-section type
  • abutments
  • methods used in shaping stones
  • chinking, mortar, and plaster

The provenience data are supplemented by the following information, which provides important details about field methods and deposit types:

  • excavation method
  • collection method
  • fill assemblage position
  • fill assemblage type
