Structure 22-S, masonry surface structure

CONSTRUCTION

Method and Sequence

This structure was built in a natural shelter in the cliff face. It was built around a large boulder and part of a natural shelf at the back of the shelter. South side of shelter was partly enclosed by construction of a fronting wall. A T-shaped doorway (F-1) was built as part of the south wall. The north wall of a probable tower (Structure 18-S) faces the remainder of the southern opening. The north and west edges of this room are defined by the back of the shelter. The east boundary of the shelter is defined by a north-south running wall. The ceiling of this room is assumed to be the top of the shelter. Wall stubs (Feature 2, Feature 3) are present in the east end of the room and are most likely part of a masonry shelf or step.
