Structure 5-S, subterranean kiva

CONSTRUCTION

Method and Sequence

Little is known about the construction of this kiva because none of its architecture was exposed; like most kivas in the Mesa Verde region, a pit was probably dug and then lined with masonry to create an upper lining wall and bench; there is evidence that a floor was laid and the structure was roofed.
