Construction
There are two noncutting tree-ring dates-- A.D. 1129vv and A.D. 1212vv--for this structure. The A.D. 1212vv date came from an intact roof beam of Feature 2, and the A.D. 1129vv date came from a beam resting partly in the kiva fill. The in-situ beam indicates the kiva was constructed or remodeled after A.D. 1212. Another line of evidence places the construction of this kiva even later in time. This kiva is thought to postdate the construction of a ground-story room to the west (Structure 11-S) because the upper lining wall and a pilaster of the kiva abut the east wall of the room. Because the room was built after A.D. 1271, this kiva was also constructed after A.D. 1271.
