Structure 213, other masonry structure

STRUCTURE DATING

Abandonment
Structure 213 was abandoned in the late Pueblo III period (immediately prior to regional abandonment). Natural sediments accumulated within and above this structure. Artifacts were most likely washed in from surrounding areas of higher elevation.
Construction
Structure 213 was constructed in the depression created by the collapse of Structure 208. Therefore, Structure 213 must post-date the occupation of Structure 208. Seven tree-ring samples from roof beams in Structure 208 dated from A.D. 1198+v to A.D. 1245v. All of the non-cutting dates are in the Pueblo III period. The latest date, A.D. 1245v, indicates that Structure 208 was constructed during the late Pueblo III period. Structure 213 was constructed in the late Pueblo III period; this structure may have been one of the last structures constructed immediately prior to regional abandonment.
