STRUCTURE DATING

Abandonment
Based on data collected from other shrines at Shields Pueblo, Structure 409 was most likely abandoned immediately prior to regional abandonment (late Pueblo III period).
Construction
Structure 409 was constructed on natural fill that accumulated above the collapsed roof of Structure 408. Structure 408 was constructed in the late Pueblo III period, therefore Structure 409 also was constructed in the late Pueblo III period immediately prior to regional abandonment.
