Structure 1008, masonry surface structure

STRUCTURE DATING

Abandonment
Appears to have been abandoned when the kiva suite was abandoned--sometime after A.D. 1266.
Construction
The six tree-ring dates for this structure are scattered between A.D. 1058 to 1266. These dates (and the 1266+r date from Nonstructure 1000, and the 1266r date from Structure 1004) suggest that the latest date for this tower (1266vv) is the best indication of its time of construction.
Remodeling
A doorway was created through the site enclosing wall (which is the southwest wall of the tower). However, it is not known whether this event occurred before the construction of the tower, as part of the construction of the tower, or sometime during the occupation of the tower. Two firepits in the floor were sealed with adobe sometime during structure use.
Reuse
No evidence of reuse.
