STRUCTURE DATING

Abandonment
No means by which to date the abandonment of this structure. The presence of some secondary refuse in the entry crevice in the floor and in the lower fill of the structure suggests that this structure was abandoned before the associated kiva suite was abandoned (sometime after A.D. 1265).
Construction
The only tree-ring date for this structure is A.D. 1169+vv, which is assumed to be from a reused beam. Wall abutments in this kiva suite indicate that this structure was built before Structures 1204, 1211, and 1212. The construction of Structures 1217/1205 has been tree-ring dated to A.D. 1260, Structure 1206 (kiva) has been dated to A.D. 1262, and Structure 1219 (kiva corner room) was dated to 1265; however, there is no way to determine the exact temporal relationship between the building of those structures (or even the site-enclosing wall) and the construction of Structure 1203.
