South wall of room, east end (east side of niche is formed by the site-enclosing wall).
Vertical location
Inferred sill estimated to be about 163 cm above the ground-story floor (Surface 2).
Construction
The east side of the niche is the interior face of the site-enclosing wall; the west side is stacked wall stones (masonry). The back wall is a large wall block. Both the lintel and sill had collapsed.

162 cm above ground-story floor (Surface 2).
Construction
The east side is a vertical sandstone slab; the west side consists of four stacked blocks (masonry); and the back wall is constructed of coursed wall blocks. The lintel is an elongated wall block. The sill is formed by the top of a large wall block.

General description
Hatchway between the upper and lower stories (Structures 1217 and 1205, respectively).
Use history
Provided access between the upper and lower stories (Structures 1217 and 1205, respectively); possibly used as "dump hole" after the lower story was no longer being used.

Construction
Hatchway was built into the upper-story floor/lower-story ceiling. Secondary-size beams formed the four sides of the hatchway opening; shakes were found resting along one of these side beams.
