Structure 810, masonry surface structure

Features

Burned spot, surface feature (Feature 1) Top of page
General description
Fire-reddened spot on floor of a peripheral room adjacent to a great kiva.
Use history
Burning occurred on a small area of the floor. This was not the result of a burning roof beam collapsing onto the floor--no burned beams were found in the room. The burning event probably occurred near to the time of abandonment because charcoal from the event was not removed. No ash was present. Four stones with blackened undersides were found resting on top of the feature. It is unclear whether the stones were blackened during the burning event or if they fell into the room after the room was abandoned and became stained from the underlying charcoal and stained sediment.
