ABOUT THIS NONSTRUCTURE No Data about Surfaces
No Masonry Data
General Location Southwest part of the site.
Specific Location South of the roomblock in Architectural Block 2400.
Selection Criteria To sample the midden in this architectural block.
Use This area was used for the deposition of refuse, probably by the occupants of the nearby roomblock.
Abandonment Abandoned when occupation of this area ended.
Postabandonment Processes Midden was covered with natural deposits (aeolian/alluvial).
Dating of Midden This 20-to-30-cm thick midden contains both late Pueblo II and Pueblo III pottery. However, all deposition is thought to have occurred after A.D. 1100, because the lowermost deposits contain Pueblo III White Painted sherds. The upper deposits contain Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds, which indicates that refuse was deposited here sometime after A.D. 1180. No hiatus in deposition was noted, so it is thought that deposition was continuous.
Date Range 2 (A.D. 1100–1225)
