1

Outdoor surface that appeared to have been constructed to provide a more level use surface; also possibly so that pit features could be excavated into it (at least one large pit was dug into it--Feature 1, hearth).

This outdoor surface was constructed on bedrock by placing a layer of strong brown sandy clay (8 to 30 cm thick) on the very irregular and sloping rock surface.

2

This was the natural, irregular, sloping, exposed slickrock.

This surface was not constructed, it is bedrock.

Construction fill was placed on this surface to form Surface 1.
