Structure Use
Room is located within a D-shaped structure (Structure 17-S) and probably functioned as part of the building. Two doorways, one in the north wall (Feature 1), and one in the west wall (Feature 5), provided access into and out of the room. At some point in time, the north doorway was plugged, eliminating this access point. Construction of an outer west wall, directly behind the inner west wall, may have sealed the west doorway. However, there may have been a doorway in the outer west wall that aligned with the doorway in the inner wall. A total of three niches are present in this room. Niches are typically found in kivas in the Mesa Verde region, not in rooms. The presence of these features may indicate the room had a special use. Fire-reddening on north wall may indicate the presence of a thermal feature.
