Structure 28-S, masonry surface structure
About this Structure
General Location
Northeast corner of site. Part of rim complex; rests on canyon rim.
Specific Location
North of Structure 6-S (a kiva) and east of Structure 29-S (a possible room).
Interpretive Type
Tower.
Structure Use
Since this structure was not excavated, data are limited; based on surface remains, this is a large circular or D-shaped structure; based on the amount of rubble, this appears to be a tall building and may have been a tower; this structure may be part of an architectural unit that also includes a kiva (Structure 6-S) and a possible room (Structure 29-S); the only secondary refuse deposits from the rim complex are from the area immediately east of this structure (Nonstructures 2.4-N); if these midden deposits originated from this architectural unit, these buildings may have been used for residential purposes; the presence of a residence within the rim complex would be significant because the rim complex has been hypothesized as a public, nonresidential area.
Dating
