North face of butte.

Second story of structure on ledge midway up the north face of butte.

Existence of this structure is inferred, and is based on the height of the wall shown in historic photos--1875 Jackson photo 274 (57-HS-541) and WHJ163--this wall was approximately 3.30 m tall in 1875 (which would have been the north wall of Structures 307 and 310. The construction of Structure 310 (and 307 beneath it), in a precarious location on a butte ledge, seems to have been stimulated by a concern for defense. Defensive use could have included storage of provisions against the possibility of a siege, and to make it more difficult to find and steal these provisions during raids. This structure could also have been used for domestic activities during times of peace. The roof of this room would have provided one of only two access routes to the top of the butte, and as such would also have been one of the few structures easily accessible from the top of the butte during an attack or siege.

No specific data; structure abandonment thought to have occurred as a result of an attack that resulted in the deaths of many villagers and that ended the occupation of the village.

No data; appears to have been natural deterioration; possible vandalism reported during interviews of local early settlers--wall might have been pushed down after World War II.
