Structure 401, masonry surface structure
About this Structure
General Location
Grid-northwest edge of site.
Specific Location
4 m grid north of Structure 408.
Interpretive Type
Tower.
Structure Use
Unknown, although a small, modified metate rested on the original surface, and a firepit was constructed and used on the final surface. Also, a one-hand mano and a two-hand mano were associated with the final surface--evidence of food processing or meal preparation activities.
Dating
Abandonment
The roof might have burned during a catastrophic event (an attack in which many of the villagers were killed) that is in evidence elsewhere on site. In any case, after the burned roof collapsed, a firepit was constructed on top of the roof fall--evidence of such reuse was unusual at this site.
Postabandonment
Structure filled naturally.
