Few data--no artifacts or features were found on the use surface--but this rough, stone enclosure containing construction fill appears to have been built to increase the depth of sediment in this area for the construction of Structure 402 (kiva) within it. The top of this construction fill would have been approximately level with the rooftop of Structure 402, and thus would have created a courtyard around the kiva that was level with the top of the roof. The purpose or significance of the "D" shape of this structure is unknown, but perhaps reflects special use or significance of the kiva.

The presence of disarticulated human remains in the roof fall of Structure 402 indicates that this structure was abandoned in a manner similar to that of many other structures on the site--as a result of an attack that resulted in the deaths of many of the villagers and that ended the occupation of the village.
