Structure 409, masonry surface structure
About this Structure
General Location
Grid-northeast edge of site.
Specific Location
Story above Structure 404.
Interpretive Type
Tower.
Structure Use
This was the second story of a taller-than-two-story building (tower). In an historic Jackson photograph, a portion of the north wall is seen to extend above the roof level of the second story--it is not clear whether this third story was a full-height, walled, roofed room or simply a parapet or other type of partial-height wall. Portions of the east and north walls were all that remained of this story. Possible defensive and/or domestic use is inferred; the structure is located at the northeast edge of the site in what could have been a strategic location.
