Structure 205, subterranean room
About this Structure
General Location
Central portion of site.
Specific Location
North-central portion of Block 200.
Interpretive Type
Unknown.
Structure Use
Structure 205 is similar to other rooms occupied during the Pueblo III period as was probably used for domestic activities or for storage. Numerous bowl and jar sherds were in contact with the floor surface indicating a domestic use of the structure (it is possible that the artifacts represent a secondary refuse deposit). The only feature recorded in the excavation unit was a possible earthen bench. Therefore, the only evidence of function derives from the artifact assemblage in contact with the floor.
Dating
Abandonment
Based on pottery data, Structure 205 was abandoned during the early Pueblo III period. The structure was intentionally burned; the roof sediments collapsed on to the floor surface. Natural fill accumulated above the roof sediments.
Postabandonment
Natural sediments accumulated above the collapsed roof. The upper deposits were disturbed by plowing.
