Structure 1204, aboveground kiva
About this Structure
General Location
In the great tower complex.
Specific Location
8 m east-northeast of the great tower bi-wall structure.
Interpretive Type
Structure Use
Few data on which to base an interpretation, other than kiva-style architecture. Niches in bench face suggest some ritual use, but do not preclude domestic use. Most of a Mesa Verde Black-on-white bowl (crushed) and a fragmentary abrading stone might have been in situ on the bench surface (undisturbed by previous excavation), and may be associated with use of the structure.
Dating
Abandonment
Prior excavation destroyed evidence of abandonment events.
Postabandonment
Structure was excavated and backfilled in 1931 by Western State College field school.
