Structure 1209, aboveground kiva
About this Structure
General Location
In the great tower complex.
Specific Location
23 m east-northeast of the great tower bi-wall structure.
Interpretive Type
Structure Use
Few data on which to base an interpretation of use, other than the kiva architectural style. This style suggests probable ritual use, but does not preclude domestic use. The smaller-than-usual extrapolated diameter of this structure suggests that it may have been inhabited or used by a smaller-than-usual group of people.
Dating
Abandonment
Prior excavation destroyed evidence of abandonment events.
Postabandonment
Structure was excavated and backfilled during a Western State College field school excavation in 1931.
