Structure 206, masonry surface structure

About this Structure

General Location

Block 200, west edge of site, west-northwest of plaza.

Specific Location

Southern end of excavated portion of Block 200; southwest of, and adjacent to, Structures 208/212; between Structures 205 and 211.

Interpretive Type

Storage room.

Structure Use

Little direct evidence of use; only a few tools and sherds were left on the floor. There are no indications of habitation, such as a hearth. Indirect evidence that the room was used for storage includes the small size of the structure, the irregular, bedrock floor, and the rather massively constructed corner bin. Also, after the doorway was reduced to a pass-through, access must have been through a roof hatchway. Like Structures 205 and 211, this room might have been associated with an unnumbered kiva immediately to the south rather than with Kiva 208; evidence of this is that the doorways in Structures 205 and 206 opened toward the south, and Structure 211 was tacked onto these rooms.

Abandonment

Abandonment appears to have been leisurely, because few artifacts were left on the floor and the storage bin was left empty.

Postabandonment

The roof and then the upper walls collapsed naturally, and sediment was naturally deposited.
