Spencer Pelton is the Wyoming State Archaeologist and an adjunct professor of anthropology at the University of Wyoming. Spencer began archaeology in the southern Appalachians of east Tennessee but has made his career in the Intermountain West since 2009. Spencer has been an archaeologist in Wyoming for 11 years, receiving his Master’s from Colorado State University in 2013, his Ph.D. from the University of Wyoming in 2018, and becoming the State Archaeologist in 2019. Spencer maintains research interests in all aspects of High Plains and Rocky Mountains archaeology from its earliest human occupants to the Emigrant Trails. Spencer lives in Laramie with his wife Hallie and daughter Macel, where he likes to play music and fish.
